Just purchased a Canon G16 for my daughter to travel overseas with. The image gateway was a great selling point because I thought it would allow her to upload to the 'cloud' (10 gig is included) so she wouldn't have to carry extra gear to back up her images or rely on finding a computer. First of all, the camera itself, despite it's wireless ability to transfer straight to the cloud, won't work at any of the hotels because of their server settings. She has to go to the business centre and use a Card reader and upload from there. That's OK but kind of defeats the purpose of the wireless ability. Big problem is that, after a month overseas, she has thousands of images and they can ONLY be downloaded from the cloud ONE AT A TIME.
Canon Image Gateway is an online photo service provided by Canon for its Wi-Fi capable cameras. Photos can be uploaded here for viewing, backup, and syncing across different cameras and devices using the same account.
I've contacted Canon and they confirm that you can't choose multiple files or dowload a whole album. While the storage option is still a good idea for sharing with friends etc, don't use it as a means to back up your files unless you're prepared to sit for hours and click each file individually to download, wait for it to do so and then move on to the next.
